Liz Sargeant

Liz has worked as a high-level band clinician at Orange Regional Conservatorium since 2017, conducting the Symphonic Winds ensemble and many concerts of combined large choirs and instrumentalists, and holds a full-time classroom position at Scots All Saints, Bathurst. In 2000, she obtained her BMus(Ed) (NSW), and has since gained broad experience from many primary, secondary and community scenarios.

She completed Conducting Symposiums at Michigan and Northwestern (Chicago) universities and received the ASME NSW award for Music Teaching Excellence in 2017. Much of Liz’s experience has been in the schools where she has been a music classroom teacher and extracurricular band conductor.

Between 2002-19 Liz ran a non-profit adults beginner music program in Bathurst which provided the city with three concert bands and a big band who each performed at local and community events. She has also held a position as musical director and conductor for the Independent Primary Schools Head Association music festival along with the secondary HCIES Jazz Academy.

Liz’s warmth and popularity with students and parents alike are reflected in her being called upon as a guest conductor across NSW for schools and community band workshops. She is a motivated and collaborative colleague highly respected by her peers throughout NSW. She is a talented educator – from primary school to retirees. She encourages players to go at their own pace, giving sound tuition and instilling confidence to grow musically amidst fellows and inspires. Many of her students are encouraged by this and enrol in tertiary music study.
